01/Problem

The problem

Decision paralysis kills productivity. You have a list of challenges you want to tackle but can't decide which one to start with, leading to procrastination. Traditional to-do lists feel boring and overwhelming. Without a structured way to track and celebrate achievements, it's easy to lose momentum. I needed something that made decisions for me while keeping the journey exciting.

  • Decision Paralysis: You have a list of challenges you want to tackle, but can't decide which one to start with, leading to procrastination and inaction.

  • Lack of Motivation: Traditional to-do lists feel boring and overwhelming, making it hard to stay motivated to complete your challenges.

  • Inconsistent Progress: Without a structured way to track and celebrate achievements, it's easy to lose momentum and abandon challenges halfway.

  • Isolated Journey: Working on challenges alone makes it harder to stay accountable and share your progress with others who might be inspired.

02/Approach

Goals and approach

A wheel of fortune system where fate decides your next challenge. Users add their challenges to the wheel and spin to receive their task. The reward-based progression system makes completing challenges exciting with streaks and achievements. A minimalist, distraction-free UI keeps users focused on what matters: taking action.

  • Create a fun, engaging, and easy-to-use web app for decision making.

  • Let fate decide your challenges, making each day an exciting adventure.

  • Provide a simple onboarding experience that lets users set up their challenges quickly.

  • Ensure the app is mobile-friendly and intuitive.

03/Architecture

How it is built

Built with Next.js and TypeScript for a fast, type-safe experience. Supabase provides real-time data sync with PostgreSQL and Row Level Security for user isolation. Clerk handles authentication with social login support. The wheel uses smooth animations and weighted randomization to ensure fair challenge distribution based on completion history.

04/Results

What happened

Challenge Wheel has transformed how users approach their personal goals. By removing the decision-making burden and adding gamification elements, users report completing significantly more challenges than with traditional methods. The app is fully mobile-friendly and designed to be picked up and used in seconds.
